First, there are some tips to consider if the sneakers are white or colored, as the washing methods are different. If your sneakers are white, you can use baking soda mixed with vinegar. Apply it with a brush, and you will see that the stains will disappear, and the white will become even whiter. If your espadrilles are colored, it is best to hand wash them following these steps:
1. Remove the laces from the sneakers to wash them separately (as they sometimes have mud stains or dirt from use, which we don't see if they are on the sneakers).
2. Put the sneakers in a bucket with cold water and powdered detergent.
3. Let them soak for a couple of hours.
4. Use a small brush (even an old toothbrush) on stubborn stains to remove them.
5. If the stains persist, add a little baking soda and scrub again with the brush.
6. Take the sneakers out of the bucket and rinse them in the sink with cold water to remove any soap residue.
7. Squeeze out excess water by hand and let them air dry, preferably outdoors, in the shade, on a flat surface (do not hang them). Place newspaper inside while they dry.
To clean superficial stains on this type of footwear:
• Use a soft brush to remove dust from the surface.
• With a stiffer brush, clean the soles to remove mud.
• If your espadrilles have grease stains, apply a little talcum powder to the stained area and let it sit to absorb the grease. Then remove the talcum powder with a soft brush.
• For less stubborn stains, mix a little water and neutral soap in a bowl and gently apply it to the fabric with a sponge.
